MY MITZVAH PROJECT
When I started thinking about my mitzvah project, I knew I wanted to do something for Israel. Israel has always been important to me because it is not only the Jewish homeland but also, much of my family lives there. I have spent time strolling in the markets of Tel Aviv and exploring the ancient Roman aqueducts in Caesarea and have so many amazing memories of time spent with my cousins.
But since October 7th, I have been thinking about the people and children who have been affected by the war. In March, I met a group of survivors from Kfar Azza who came to NYC to share their stories. After sharing shabbat dinner with them, I decided I wanted my mitzvah project to help their community, especially the kids.
Kibbutz Kfar Azza is one of the kibbutzes that was attacked by Hamas on October 7th. Almost all of the surviving families that lived there are now staying temporarily at Kibbutz Shefayim in central Israel, and will be moving later this fall to another temporary location in the south, closer to their homes. The Israeli government has been providing housing and necessities to the people of Kfar Azza, but there is still so much the community needs to repair and rebuild from that traumatizing event, especially the kids.
I have decided to raise money for the kids to provide extracurricular and therapeutic activities.
Please join me in supporting this beautiful community.
As a thank you for your support to Kfar Azza, I will be making keychains with evil eye symbols on them. The evil eye is part of my Sephardic heritage and is supposed to protect you when someone gives you the “evil eye”, or wishes bad luck on you. The evil eye is meant to act as a shield.
So if your evil eye charm breaks, it means that it has done its job! I hope my keychains bring you all protection and luck.
If you would like one of my keychains, please click the button below to sign up so we know to send you one.
Thank you for being a part of my mitzvah project. Am Yisrael Chai!
